As the poster boy India's new age politicians the fall of Mr Tharoor comes across as a uncomfortable tingle in back for all of those(me included) who indulged in the fantasy that our country might someday be actually be ruled by people whose intellectual capacity exceeds that of a pea pod.(No disrespect to the people at the helm right now....maybe the bitter taste of it all is making me forget the long list of degrees that our prime minister holds :) )....but here was one guy with the ability to actually hold an opinion. Some one who dint need a 2 teleprompters and a written speech every time he addressed an international gathering. What with the monotonic, kiwi polished speeches that our leaders come out with ,with cliches and pointlessness so cankered that it makes the nirma ad a breath of fresh air, its hard to ignore the fact Mr Tharoor actually made politics feel like it was something that you and I could get into, a profession that involved human intelligence and not barbaric might of the stone age, and that plague and disease though ever present is still treatable.
Maybe he fell for the right reasons. The problem is when you apply the same reasons to the entire spectrum of indian politics we should have already perished as a country after an eminent civil war a most likely result of having no leaders at all to govern the country....but since we are all still alive and kicking there is something shady about the whole deal....
But then what the hell, who the hell gives a damn about it when he fell to an enemy who has given India one of the most powerful brands of the decade.
The nation has been hobbling along for so many centuries irrespective of barbarics and rapists ruling the country for so long. Whats wrong with the way things they are. We dont need these idealistic Tuft and harvard grads who can change the way things go about. We just need people who can fill the pot holes in the road when it rains, someone who doesnt give us a powercut when a RC vs DD match is on. As long as you can jump a traffic ticket with a 100 note, all iz well....
Well maybe that why Mr Tharoor never fit into the scheme of things. We get the government we deserve . Simply put the people who like the likes of Mr. Tharoor cant take the pain of standing in a voting Que, the people who take the pain dont give a rats arse. So lazy or otherwise we dont deserve a better governance
And infact the demographic sweet point that india is at right now it does not need an inspirational leadership to prop it up. Just give the Billion and a half people of the country a daily meal and a way to earn that, you single handedly create enough consumption in the world to make industry, enterprise and research soar to an all time high. Again all this purely driven by economic factors.
So before leaving the one question that comes to mind.......What happens if we get the fantasy leaders(which I in my entire post have randomly used as one Mr. Shashi Tharoor....not in any way do I imply he has them all...but for the sake of arguement....the charismatic, visionary leader with all the right intents and the wherewithal to do so ,comes to power??)
That is where we hit a bump.......thats when we realise that maybe the GDP figures and decrease in malnutrition levels are not the scales we would like to measure our country with......maybe the along with daily meals we want the billion and a half people to know the diffference between a mayawati and a manmohan, between soren and a tharoor. We want them to make for us the decisions that we know are right but are too lazy to do anything about. And when someone writing a blog wont have to refer them as them......and when all will be we.....
But as long as we are satisfied with the scales we have....houston you are clear for approach.......the tharoor hurricane has passed.....
